Let that belief permeate throughout the team, and it will. When someone shows strong belief in you before you do something, like most people, you will fight hard to live up to that belief.
In the example above, maybe the impact is that now you must work crazy hours to catch up based on their incomplete work, or maybe it is an unsatisfied client. Be specific. ” What does that mean? ” What does that mean? Most of us have been through a feedback session where someone points out perceived flaws but there is little evidence of negative impact; it just seems like someone is being nitpicky. That feels personal. If you link the actions to negative impact and go very far with the negative impact, they will know WHY it is such a big deal and why changes and actions need to be developed.
