These veetors are essentially of two types: 1. Veetors replieating stably, both in the donor and in the Azospirillum III: Genetics, Physiology, Ecology Ed. by W. g. pRK290, and 2. g. pACYC184, pBR322. In the first case, the mutagenized genes are transferred to the wild type strain and the stably replicating vector is removed by using another plasmid belonging to the same incompatibility group, thus making the detection of the mutagenized phenotype easier. The second case is an ingenious way to avoid the problem of using the second plasmid, as the vector of mutagenized genes is lost automatically after transfer into the recipient.
