Human society progressed from theological, and metaphysical, illusions to its highest stage of scientificpositive polity. At this highest stage, a society, uniting the principles of order and progress, is achieved.

Moreover, in disagreement with the utilitarian views that humans behave in accordance with the principle of maximization of self-interest, Durkheim proffered a social theory of modern moral social cohesion.
